Bishop’s University, here I come! - Part 2

See that?
That’s an admission acceptance letter from the Bishop’s University Admissions Office!
YES SIR! I’m in! YEAH! Political Studies Major baby, the only program I wanted to study in the only school I wanted to go to!
So far, so good!
Ahem.
OK, so much for the celebrating part. Now I need to think some serious things over. Like financial considerations for example. Going to study five hours from where you live is not an easy thing to plan, mentally or financially. I actually spent the entire afternoon calculating and re-calculating and thinking this over and over. This is not going to be easy.
And I am not eligible for government loans or scholarships (apparently my parents earn too much dough -I don’t get that impression however-) so my family’s on its own here. I’ve already started putting some cash aside but it’s going to be hard coming up with a decent sum (I’m aiming for four grand) for September 1st. Oh well, at least I can tell myself that I won’t be relying on government for money (which is in total accordance with my right-wing/libertarian principles) and that I’ll have less money to reimburse after I’m done, which is definitely a plus.
Unfortunately, I’m not going to be able to afford keeping my 1994 Dodge Spirit (gas, insurance, plates, repairs, university parking fees, etc.) so I will sell it at the end of the summer. Not that I like the idea, (I absolutely LOVE my car) but I don’t have much of a choice. Plus, it’ll get me some more dough to help me through my first year in Lennoxville QC. If anyone’s interested, this car will be for sale at the end of the summer for $2,900 CDN. There. I’ve said it. *sigh* It really saddens me having to part with this car.
But I’m still quite short of the total amount needed to pay for all my expenses there, which is roughly $10,000 CDN a year with everything (tuition, residence rent, utilities, supplies and food) all included. So my parents are going to have to contribute a large part. We’ll discuss that tonight after supper in a family meeting. Wish us luck, and wish us to find a hell of an insight into just how my parents are going to be able to fork out the remaining funds needed for me to study there…
So it’s more of a nerve-racking enterprise for me now than an exciting one. I’m going to be on my own for the first time. I can’t really cook or anything, and I won’t be able to in the residences anyways. If I can at least find myself a small part-time job on campus while I’m studying it’d be more than great to have some extra pocket cash to make my living a little more interesting… but I can’t let it interfere with my course of study. I need good grades, I need high grades. I won’t be done after my Bachelor’s degree as I’m aiming for a Ph.D.
So that’s kind of how I feel about it all just now.
I’ll keep you posted.

Félicitations Xavier. I hope you don’t waste a second spreading conservatism on campus!

Congratulations man. Just remember that just because some of us are going into academia (my plans are to go into economics) doesn’t mean that we’re going to let the Leftists eat us up, okay?

Thanks to both of you for your nice comments, I WILL definitely be engaging in a Conservative Party Student association when I get there, but now I have to worry about financial matters more than anything else…
